Not covered here are dedicated video-editing suites, such as Corel VideoStudio, CyberLink PowerDirector, or Pinnacle Studio. The highlighted software runs the gamut from a simple, free app to robust utilities that can cost more than a monthly fee. This article, on the other hand, covers both still-image and video/screen-animation capture. Alternatively, check out How To Take Screenshots on a Mac or on any other device. If you're a Windows user ready to upgrade, learn How to Take Screenshots in Windows 11. There are even two free ones bundled into Windows 10! Our How to Take Screenshots in Windows 10 feature highlights that pair, plus the other available options (though Windows' offerings don't focus on screen recording). The screen-capture field comprises standalone apps, as well as tools built into more robust packages.

You'll need the power and flexibility that screen-capture utilities provide. Unfortunately, Windows' old PrtScn capture-to-Clipboard key has a very limited use, even when paired with Paint or Paint 3D for image-editing purposes.

It could be for an important investor meeting. One for the screen and one for the program itself from what I have been told. You're going to need to capture an image on your monitor at some point in your life. Now it will be playing on the Screen itself. To eliminate that if it's playing in WMP, open WMP and on the TOOLS menu click on OPTIONS and then on the PERFORMANCE (tab) and in the "Video Acceleration" area, move the slider clear to the "NONE" end. When WMP is playing on the monitor it is playing using it's program and NOT the "screen" itself. That's O.K but when you want to capture something that is playing on your monitor (say like a video playing in WMP) it's a different story. That's what I do with my Dazzle 150 also. Files > 5GB can be collected - not sure what the max is but that equates to 1hr 20 minutes at DVD-HQ (MPEG-2) format.

Selectable resolution (resulting in BIG file size changes of course). Software such as VideoWave or DVD Maker (comes with the Dazzle box) collects the input and sends it to an output file (or directly to DVD/CD). S-Video or Video Out connects to the Dazzle which connects to a USB port on your workstation. Pinnacle's Dazzle DVC90 seems to do a pretty good job of capturing.
